LONDON STANSTED REVEALS DESIGN TEAM FOR AIRPORT UPGRADE

An engineering partnership of Mott MacDonald and Ramboll has been appointed as design engineers, together with architect Pascall+Watson (P+W), for London Stansted Airport’s new arrivals terminal and the redevelopment of the existing facility.

Owned by Manchester Airports Group, this redevelopment of London Stansted Airport forms part of the facility's wider £600m transformation programme.

The project involves the development and delivery of P+W’s concept design for a new 34,000 sq m arrivals terminal, which will relocate all arrivals to a separate, state-of-the art building.

According to Mott MacDonald, the bespoke design complements the architecture of the existing building, which will be reconfigured into a dedicated departures-only terminal.

This will include the expansion of check-in, security and retail areas, along with a new airside coaching facility, aircraft stands, taxiway infrastructure and car parking facilities.

The joint engineering team will provide structural, civil engineering, building services, information and communication technology, specialist systems and airfield engineering. 

Mott MacDonald is further supporting the delivery of the project with the provision of an enhanced project management office controls team, together with additional specialist input on constructability.
