US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AWARDS USD 10.3 MILLION IN FUNDING TO SAN JOSE GATEWAY

US Department of Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao, has announced that the FAA will award USD 677 million in airport infrastructure grants, the first allotment of the total USD 3.2 billion in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding.

The grants include a USD 10.2 million award to Norman Y Mineta San Jose International Airport for apron reconstruction.

“If you want a strong transportation system, you have to invest in airport infrastructure,” said Secretary Chao. 

“Airports are the backbone of aviation. These communities are going to reap greater safety, efficiency, and economic dividends for years to come.”

The grants will fund infrastructure projects that include runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminal projects. 

The FAA notes that these projects are important to the safety and efficiency of the nation’s system of airports.

Airports receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs. If their capital project needs exceed their available entitlement funds, the FAA can supplement their entitlements with discretionary funding.
