NEW VIDEO SHOWS SCALE OF LONDON CITY AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

A new video from London City Airport published today illustrates the scale of the engineering project now underway in King George V Dock, as the £480 million City Airport Development Programme gathers pace.

In order to build the airport’s eight new aircraft stands, passenger terminal facilities, and a new parallel taxiway, due for completion in 2022, the airport has contracted BAM Nuttall to build a 75,000sqm concrete deck, supported by over one thousand piles (steel and concrete columns each around 17.5m long and one metre in diameter).

This deck will be the new 'land' upon which the new infrastructure will sit, above the dock waters of King George V Dock.

In this first video about the construction project, Peter Adams, London City Airport's chief development officer, introduces the two-year piling and decking phase alongside Dave Bolger, a section engineer from BAM Nuttall.
