OFF AIRPORT CHECK-IN FACILITIES OPEN AT HONG KONG-ZHUHAI-MACAU BRIDGE

Passengers flying with home-based carriers Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon, Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express can now check-in for flights from Hong Kong International Airport at the boudary crossing facilities of the new Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

Located in the arrivals hall at the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF), the new check-in centre boasts check-in counters and smart check-in kiosks, which can use to check their baggage and obtain boarding passes. 

After checking in at the HKBCF, passengers may then go to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) or other places leisurely according to their own schedules without the hassle of carrying their luggage.

They will collect their checked baggage at their destinations.

The upstream check-in services set up by HKIA operator, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), at the Zhuhai Boundary Crossing Facilities started operations in tandem with the Bridge, while the same service will be available at the Macau Boundary Crossing Facilities in the first quarter of 2019. 

With these upstream services, passengers can check-in and obtain boarding passes before going to HKIA via the Bridge. 

For passengers who prefer to check-in at HKIA, dedicated transportation services are also available for them to proceed from Zhuhai or Macao via HKBCF to the airport directly.

AAHK's deputy director for service delvery, Steven Yiu, says: “With these check-in services at the HZMB’s three boundary crossing facilities, passengers can enjoy a hassle-free journey when travelling to various destinations around the world via HKIA. 

"Leveraging HKIA’s advantageous geographical location as a gateway to the Mainland, we will continue to strengthen our multi-modal transportation services, striving to offer HKIA’s extensive connectivity to passengers travelling to and from cities throughout the Pearl River Delta region and beyond.” 

To provide an even more seamless travel experience for passengers using HKIA, a planned new Intermodal Transfer Terminal at HKIA will link the HKBCF by a new bonded vehicular bridge which is being built in parallel with the transfer terminal construction.

When the new transfer terminal and bonded bridge completes in 2022, passengers who have completed upstream check-in procedures in the Mainland and Macao and travel to HKIA via the HZMB will no longer need to undergo border clearance procedures at the HKBCF before boarding their flights. 

Instead they will proceed directly to their boarding gates in the airport restricted area via the bonded bridge and the intermodal transfer terminal; and vice versa for passengers arriving at HKIA en route to the Mainland and Macao via the HZMB.

The USD 20 billion bridge spans 55km and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai and is expected to handle around 9,200 vehicles every day.
