BEIRUT. A NEW CONNECTION IN THE MIDDLE EAST

From 14 June, LOT will start flying to the capital city of Lebanon. It is currently the second connection of the flag carrier of Poland in the Middle East, and at the same time the 105th route in LOT network of connections. Tickets will be available on sale starting next week

Flights between Warsaw and Beirut will be operated starting from 14 June until 15 September 2019. In June and September, LOT will fly to Lebanon four times a week, and in July and August - five times a week. LOT Embraer 195 airplane which, depending on the version, has from 112 to 118 passenger seats on board. The fact whether the connection will be maintained also during the winter depends on the interest of passengers and transport results during the summer.

The estimated flight time is 3 hours and 25 minutes from Warsaw to Beirut, and 3 hours and 40 minutes from Beirut to Warsaw. The airplane will take off from the Warsaw Chopin Airport at 10:30 p.m. to land in Beirut at 2:55 a.m. local time. The flight in the opposite direction will start at 3:50 a.m. local time with the estimated arrival time at 6:30 a.m.

LOT decided to launch new service as a result of increasing passenger demand to Lebanon from Europe in the recent years. The schedule was prepared in such a way as to enable convenient transfer times in Warsaw, on the way to ports in Western Europe, Northern Europe and the Balkans. LOT sees a chance in a currently limited offer of flights to Lebanon from Central and Eastern Europe, offered by other carriers.

In recent years, LOT has already carried passengers to Beirut, but that connection was suspended. “In comparison with that network of connections, the carrier has a much more extensive network of connections today, among others in Germany and Scandinavia, where we expect a large interest in flights through Warsaw to the Middle East,” says Adrian Kubicki, director of corporate communications of LOT.

The connection is addressed to tourist and corporate passengers. Lebanon is characterized by a stable political and economic situation among the countries of the region. According to official Lebanese data, this year, almost half a million tourists visited the country by the end of October, which confirms the growing interest in this place. Great help for passengers is that there are regulations between Poland and Lebanon that do not require prior visa application (entry stamp is given at the airport).

LOT is currently the fastest growing airline in Europe. The carrier offers 105 scheduled flights. Since the beginning of 2016, LOT has announced the launch of more than 60 direct flights, including from Warsaw to Los Angeles, Newark, Seoul, Tokyo and Singapore, from Budapest to New York City and Chicago, from Cracow to Chicago, and from Rzeszów to Newark.

In 2017, LOT carried a total of over 6.8 million passengers, up more than 25 percent year on year. This year, it plans to carry approx. 9 million passengers and intends to exceed the 10 million mark in 2019. Today, LOT has nearly 3,000 employees in several dozen of countries around the world.

Currently, Beirut is available as a direction on routes from Poland. The distribution of tickets from other cities in Europe and around the world will be available in the carrier’s booking systems in the next two weeks.
