FAST GROWING PRAGUE AIRPORT BREAKS 16 MILLION PASSENGER PER ANNUM MILESTONE

Prague's Václav Havel Airport has broken the 16 million passengers per annum barrier for the first time.

The Czech gateway registered its 16 millionth passenger yesterday and is on target to accommodate 16.8 million passengers (+9%) by the end of the year.

It claims that the record traffic figures confirm that it is growing faster than the European average for airports of its size.

“For the third year in a row, Prague Airport has reported a record number of serviced passengers," enthuses Vaclav Rehor, chairman of the Board of Directors at Prague Airport.

"We are expecting approximately 1.4 million passengers more in 2018 compared to 2017. The growth is anticipated to continue in 2019, both in terms of the number of passengers, where the expected increase is 3% to 5%, and in the number of direct routes."

The airport has handled an average of 46,000 passengers a day since January 1, 2018.

Passenger numbers peaked in July when almost 1.9 million passengers passed through the gateway. 

Work is currently going on or about to start on a number of projects designed to enhance the airport's capacity to ensure that it is capable of meeting demand in the coming years.

Rehor says: “Next year, we are planning to open new check-in counters in Terminal 1 and a brand new check-in island in Terminal 2. 

"We will finish the redevelopment of aircraft parking stands in pier B, where we will also modernise two departure gates. 

"We will also start reconstruction and expanding our baggage sorting facility."
