CAROL CONCERTS AND FESTIVE ACTIVITIES IN HONG KONG AS TRAFFIC CONTINUES TO RISE

Hong Kong International Airport has begun the countdown to Christmas by staging the first of a series of carol concerts and other festive activities to entertain passengers between now and the New Year.

To kick-off the festive activities, choral group 'Santa Mama' joined hands with students from Braemar Hill Nursery School to perform a series of classic Christmas carols at Meeters & Greeters Hall. 



Other activities during the holiday season include performances by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, members of the airport community, primary and secondary schools, and other organisations.



Looking ahead to a busy holiday period, Airport Authority of Hong Kong's executive director of airport operations, C K Ng, said: “We expect a travel peak at HKIA during the Christmas and New Year holidays. 

"Over this period, airlines will arrange a total of 108 additional flights to cope with the surge in travel demand. The most popular destinations are Sapporo, Taipei and Nagoya. 

"It will be busy, but we will work with our business partners and the airport community to ensure smooth operations during the holiday season.”

It has actually been a year for the airport, which handled six million passengers in November, taking the total to 68.2 million (+2.6%) for the first eleven months of 2018.

And passenger numbers aren't the only thing on the increase at the airport as both cargo and aircraft movements continue to go up, rising by 2.2% and 1.7% respectively during the same period to 4.7 million tonnes of cargo and airmail and 390,625 flight movements compared to the same period in 2017.
