Easyjet continues to expand at Glasgow Airport

EasyJet is to base a fifth aircraft at Glasgow Airport, a move that is expected to create around 50 new jobs.

It joins two 156-seat Airbus A319 and two 186-seat A320 aircraft already serving the airline’s customers in Glasgow.

The addition of the new aircraft will create around 50 jobs for Glasgow-based flight, cabin and ground crew.

The airline also took the opportinty today to announce the March 2020 launch of a new route between Glasgow and Birmingham.

The domestic city connection will operate 13 times a week throughout the year, with flights launching on 29 March 2020.

Today, easyJet is the largest airline in Glasgow and operates up to 294 flights a week across 19 routes.

"The addition of another aircraft will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the base providing customers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.

“We are also very excited about launching our new route from Glasgow to Birmingham. This will provide even more great value and convenient domestic connectivity for our customers.

“EasyJet has selected Glasgow as the focus of its growth in Scotland and we are excited about the future at Glasgow.”

While Francois Bourienne, AGS Airports Group’s chief commercial officer, said: “Both easyJet and Glasgow Airport have enjoyed a long and productive relationship since the airline’s inaugural flight landed here almost a quarter of a century ago.

“Its plans to expand operations is fantastic news for both the airport and over one million passengers who travel with the airline from Glasgow each year.

“This is a significant investment given that the introduction of a fifth based aircraft brings with it an additional 340,000 seats annually and will support approximately 50 new jobs at Glasgow Airport.

“The additional aircraft not only puts Glasgow Airport on a course for future growth, but also underlines easyJet’s continued commitment to our passengers.

“The introduction of easyJet’s new Birmingham route is also welcome news as services to England’s second biggest city continue to be very popular with both our business and leisure customers.”
