Дата: 25-02-20 08:26Boeing finds debris in tanks of two-third of inspected 737 MAXBoeing is said to have found foreign object debris in the fuel tanks of two-third of the aircraft it inspected. As a consequence, the scope of the inspections should be extended. The presence of foreign object debris (FOD) in the fuel tanks was discovered during maintenance operations on undelivered 737 MAX aircraft that were in storage. Boeing decided to undergo a “solid internal investigation and immediate corrective actions.” Objects of an unconfirmed nature were found in 35 of 50 aircraft that were initially inspected, sources close to the matter revealed on February 22, 2020. Consequently, Boeing is expected to broaden the range of its inspections. The initial sample of 50 planes is too small to say if 70% of the whole fleet is affected. Four hundred Boeing 737 MAX planes were built since the grounding and are currently being stored in several facilities across the United States. The manufacturer recommended for airlines that have received the 737 MAX to carry out inspections. Southwest, American Airlines and United already announced that additional checks would be carried out. While Boeing initially said the inspections should not affect the recertification schedule, it is unclear if the change of scale would have a consequence. The manufacturer is currently overhauling the Renton final assembly line “to curb inefficiency, improve quality and ease the plane’s re-entry to the market,” Reuters reports. Boeing has been affected by recurring production problems. In early 2019, the deliveries of another aircraft, the KC-46 Pegasus refueler, were suspended twice by the United States Air Force after FOD and loose tools were discovered in closed compartments of the delivered aircraft. A Corrective Action Plan (CAP) was issued and deliveries have since resumed. Джерело інформації: AeroTime |
