Wizz Air continues aggressive expansion with three new bases
Despite the current market conditions and a clear slump in travel, Wizz Air has continued to aggressively expand throughout Europe. On June 18, 2020, the low-cost carrier announced three new bases in the continent, including an increase in capacity in Belgrade, Serbia.
The airline will establish three new bases in George Enescu International Airport (BCM), Bacau, Romania, Dortmund Airport (DTM), Germany and Pulkovo Airport (LED) in St. Petersburg, Russia. Wizz Air will base two, three and one Airbus A320 family aircraft at the airports, respectively. Furthermore, the airline plans to operate 12 new routes from BCM, 18 new routes from DTM and five new routes from LED.
In addition to the new bases, the company announced that it will base an additional aircraft at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) in Belgrade, Serbia. The airline will add nine new routes to the airport, which serves the Serbian Capital. In total, three aircraft will now be based at Belgrade.

“This expansion further contributes to the vital recovery of the economy in our markets and we remain focused on best servicing them, while protecting the health of our customers and employees,” added Váradi.
Wizz Air’s newest announcement is the second round of new bases that were announced by the company. On May 29, the Hungary-based company revealed that four new bases will be launched from July 1, 2020. These bases are located in Milan, Italy; Larnaca, Cyprus; Lviv, Ukraine and Tirana, Albania. In total, they will host 11 aircraft with over 50 new routes to and from the aforementioned four destinations.
