International students learn about Salvador Bahias sustainability success

Salvador Bahia Airports sustainability success has led to the Brazilian gateway becoming a case study for students taking sustainable air transport management courses at the ITAéria Business School in Spain.

The airport was recognised as the most sustainable airport in Brazil in 2019 by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the accolade brought it to the attention of ITAéria, which specialises in airport and aeronautical management.

Now Salvador Bahia Airport: The most sustainable Airport in Brazil is taught as a module at the school by the airports very own environment manager, Rodrigo Tavares, who is also a student at ITAérea.

Salvador Bahia Airport is a clear case of a success story that shows that efficient management of human and material resources can lead to substantial improvements in an airports environmental footprint, says ITAérea CEO, José Ignacio Escudero,

ITAérea students value knowing and experiencing cases of this type through their protagonists and main agents involved.

Salvador Bahia Airports environmental initiatives were recognised by ANAC when it carried out a Sustainable Aerodromes survey, which mapped practices aimed at environmental management at the countrys airports.  

The survey covered 36 different topics that included everything from water management, electricity, waste, climate change, atmospheric emissions, noise, soil, fauna and flora to environmental education and organisational management.

The main terminal in Bahia met 33 of the 36 requirements under evaluation, registering 88.85% of the score and being considered with sustainable actions at an advanced level.
