Swissport begins serving IAG airlines at Berlin Brandenburg

Global ground handler, Swissport, has signed a three-year contract with IAG to provide services to its airlines serving Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BER).

The new additions – British Airways, Iberia and Vueling – means that Swissport now provides ground handling services to 17 airlines at Germany’s new Ђ6 billion capital city airport.

A British Airways flight to London Heathrow was the first flight under the new agreement with the British-Spanish airline group at the new gateway.

Swissport reveals that the deal covers passenger services at check-in and gates, ramp handling, baggage loading and pushback services, as well as aircraft cleaning.

The co-operation, it notes, starts with three flights every weekend in March and will be extended to two daily flights from April 1, 2021.

Swissport also operates a modern air cargo warehouse at BER, which is officially called Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt.

In 2020, Swissport served roughly one million passengers and handled some 7,400 tons of air cargo in Berlin.

Munich Airport subsidiary, AeroGround Berlin, is the biggest ground handler at BER in terms of market share, serving the Lufthansa Group, its subsidiaries and a number of other airlines.
