airBaltic receives its 27th Airbus A220-300 aircraft

airBaltic received a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft registered as YL-ABA in Riga on June 27, 2021.

It is the 27th A220-300 to enter the fleet of the Latvian airline since it received its first aircraft in 2016, making it the world’s third-largest operator of the plane after Delta Air Lines (50 aircraft), and Swiss Airlines (30). airBaltic has an ongoing order of 50 Airbus A220-300 with 30 options for the same aircraft type.

“The Airbus A220-300 has performed beyond the company’s expectations, delivering better overall performance, fuel efficiency and convenience for both passengers and the staff,” the company said in a statement.

Since May 2020 and the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, airBaltic restricted all its operations to the Airbus A220-300 aircraft as a way to save on fleet maintenance and gain in aircraft efficiency.
