Long-haul low-cost Flypop picks Stansted as base

Flypop, a British low-cost airline with long-haul ambitions, announced a new base at London Stansted (STN).

Flypop sees “strong demand” in connections between the United Kingdom and “key secondary cities” of India, according to the company's press release. 

“During the pandemic we have been in talks with a number of UK airports and we can now confirm London Stansted as our first UK base. London Stansted Airport has a history of being the base for low-cost carriers and we feel it is the perfect fit for our passengers,” Navdip Singh Judge, the CEO & Principal of Flypop, is quoted in the statement.

The company is focused on the UK's Indian and South Asian diaspora communities, Judge said, and Stansted is the most convenient location for that.

In 2018, Flypop announced an intention to connect Stansted with the Indian cities of Amritsar, Punjab, and Ahmedabad,Gujarat. The airline was planning to use Airbus A330-300 aircraft for the task. 

In late 2020, the company had a plan to start its operations in 2021. According to the latest press release, it is currently engaged in negotiations with Indian airports and will confirm the destinations shortly. It is unknown if it will operate according to the plans from 2018.
