Lufthansa says demand for Singapore flights tripled

Demand for flights between Germany and Singapore has tripled since the announcement of easing travel restrictions, according to German carrier Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA).

Singapore announced on August 19, 2021, that it would open a vaccinated travel lane (VTL) to Germany and Brunei for vaccinated passengers as of September 8, 2021.

Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) said it will offer daily flights in cooperation with Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) from Frankfurt or Munich from September 16, 2021.

“Singapore opening up not only enables people to visit friends and family or meet business partners again, but also sends an important signal to other countries in the region,” said Elise Becker, Head of Sales for Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) in Asia-Pacific, in a statement on August 27, 2021.

Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) added in the statement: “Since the announcement by the Singaporean government, demand for flights between Germany and Singapore has tripled.”

While quarantine has been dropped, there are strict requirements for entry to Singapore under the travel lane system, including applying for a vaccinated travel pass and health insurance, as well as proof of vaccination. Travelers must undertake a pre-departure COVID test, a further one upon arrival at the airport, as well as additional tests on day three and day of their stay.

Those wishing to use the VTL must book onto a flight with one of three carriers: Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA), Singapore Airline or Royal Brunei Airlines.
