Tender for Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Aerotrain in its final stage

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad reports that the bid to replace Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) Aerotrains has now reached its final stage. 

The group said they have identified a final shortlist of bidders for KLIA’s Aerotrain’s replacement, a project valued to be over USD 96,000,000.

All three Aerotrains in KLIA that are currently in operation are due for replacement as they are nearing their end-of-life stage. Two of these Aerotrains have been in service since KLIA opened in 1998, with a third train added in 2010.

The bid is expected to be concluded over the next couple of months and an official announcement by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad will be made once a formal award is approved by the board. 

KLIA Terminal 1 had an annual traffic movement of 13 million passengers in 1998, when it opened. In 2019, the number of passengers grew to 29 million.
