Belgrade Airport begins next phase of modernisation programme
Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport, which earlier this year completed the €2 million upgrade of its central terminal area, has begun the next phase of its infrastructure development programme.
The Serbian gateway, which is part of the VINCI Airports’ global airport network, is confident that the next phase of its upgrade will further enhance the airport experience and comfort levels for visitors.
The work includes the modernisation of Terminal 2, which will be carried out in phases, starting with the Arrivals area on the ground floor and at the first floor in the area in front of passport control.
VINCI Airports reveals that the modernisation and expansion of the terminal building includes the complete reconstruction of the interior to allow for additional check-in desks and more than 1,200sqm of space for new restaurants, bars and shops.
Furthermore, a new centralised security control zone will be created on the first floor to increase the efficiency of security operations and ensure faster passenger flows.
The works on the refurbishment of the A and C side gates are currently ongoing as is a project to create an additional roof corridor that will enable the separation of arriving and departing passengers throughout the whole terminal building.
In addition, preparatory works are underway on projects to modernise access roads, construct new parking lots, and upgrade and reconfigure traffic lanes in front of the passenger terminal.
VINCI Airports notes that it has already invested more than €80 million this year on significant infrastructure works that have included further terminal reconstruction and expansion, the building of a new runway and construction of facilities such as solid waste and waste water treatment plant and a new heating plant and a solar farm.
