British Airways to resume London-Sydney ‘Kangaroo Route’ in March 2022

British Airways is set to restart international flights connecting London and Sydney, after a two-year hiatus.

According to the BA website, the carrier will restart its popular London Heathrow (LHR) – Sydney (SYD) service via Singapore (SIN) on March 27, 2022. The resumed service will be operated by British Airways’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and will take around 22 hours and 50 minutes in total.

The first leg of the journey will take roughly 12 hours, after which the Dreamliner will land at Singapore Changi Airport for a short break before the second leg of the flight. The flight will then take a further 11 hours before arriving in Sydney, the airline flight schedule indicates.

For travelers eager to catch a flight BA’s ‘Kangaroo Route’, prices vary between Ђ765 (£639) for a one-way flight ticket in Economy class, and Ђ2,006 (£1,675) for a seat in Premium Economy. Those plumping for Business class will be offered a one-way ticket for Ђ5,835 (£4,871).

The news comes after a two-year halt. In April 2020, British Airways temporarily paused service to its key Asia-Pacific destinations, including London-Sydney flights. At the time, BA removed SYD airport from its schedule due to stringent Australian international travel restrictions, where all passengers arriving in the country were required to follow a mandatory two-week quarantine.

Initially, the British carrier had hoped to resume the route at the end of October 2020. However, this was plan was thwarted in November 2020 when both the UK and Australian government imposed national lockdowns and banned outbound international leisure travel.
