Aer Rianta International signs Portuguese duty free concession

Aer Rianta International (ARI), a subsidiary of the state owned daa and the first company to operate duty-free shops in the world, has been chosen as the partner of choice by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) to form a joint venture company to operate their portfolio of duty-free and duty-paid retail concessions in Portugal.

As a result, From June 1, 2022, ARI will operate outlets at Lisbon, Porto and Faro, airports in mainland Portugal and five others spread across the Madeira and the Azores. ANA is part of VINCI Airports’ global airport network.

The concession scope incorporates over 34 commercial spaces, including duty free main shops, satellite stores, and fashion/beauty stores, with a total area approximately of 9,500sqm, which the new joint venture will manage for a period of seven years.

Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA, said: “We were looking for a business partner with a proven track record in the travel retail industry and with a strong alignment with VINCI Airports priorities on passenger experience, sense of place and innovation.
