Salvador Bahia Airport showcases work of local artist

Salvador Bahia Airport in Brazil, part of the VINCI Airport network, has a new selfie point following the unveiling of a new artwork by artist Raiana Britto.

Her illustration, next to the entrance to the boarding area, is said to bring together scenes from the daily lives of black people who live in Salvador and is part of the gateway’s initiative to give visibility to a young artist and promote diversity in the airport environment.

Britto’s work is linked to social issues of race and gender, and was inspired by her own experiences of life in Salvador.

She said: “In this art I think of bringing blackness in an ancestral way through everyday scenes from Bahia. I hope to be able to reach a large number of people, either through identification or admiration, or both.”

The airport’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity led to it declaring November, Black Consciousness Month, where a series of special events culminated with the showing of the movie
Black Panther: Wakanda forever in a special cinema session.

Daniela Franco, communication manager at Salvador Bahia Airport, pointed out: “Through this programme, our employees and passengers can experience a little of the culture and roots of our history.

“In this way, actions during Black November highlight VINCI Airports’ commitment to highlight the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion in all spaces, highlighting the work of black artists not only in the month of celebration, but throughout the year.”
