SWISS A320 diverts to Zurich after smoke reported in cockpit and cabin

A Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) Airbus A320 aircraft made an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland after the flight crew reported an unknown odor and smoke onboard mid-flight.

The incident occurred on January 6, 2023, when the SWISS Airbus A320-200 passenger aircraft, registered HB-IJM was operating flight LX-2086.

According to flight history found on Flightradar24.com, the plane, which took off from Zurich Airport (ZRH) at 10.03 am local time, was due to arrive at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Portugal a few hours later.

However, when the jet was climbing out of ZHR airport, the pilots reported smoke in both the cockpit and cabin and immediately stopped climbing at 10,000 ft flight altitude.

Flight history reveals that the plane diverted to the airport of departure and touched down back in Zurich around 20 minutes after takeoff.

No injuries or other incidents were reported after passenger evacuation.
